The Miata, the Mazda, and the Madness

August 15th, 2006

The craze for the Mazda Miata MX-5 continues as thousands of enthusiasts each year head down to their local Mazda Miata parts dealer to invest their kid’s college tuition on a few more gadgets and gizmos to make their ride stand out in the crowd.  I would tell these individuals to control themselves if I didn’t already have the fever myself.  With the number of Mazda Miata parts at your dealer; there really is no limit to the possibilities that hold within your Mazda Miata MX5.  But with so many options at your disposal, where should you turn when a Miata project beckons at your heels (or I should rather say wheels).

The easiest Mazda Miata part upgrade you can accomplish in the beginnings of your Mazda Miata’s transformation is a beautiful set of wheels.  Wheels to fit your particular Mazda Miata’s personality can be found at most any dealer or internet shop, and often times have the appropriate software to allow you to see what they are going to look like before they are installed.  My personal favorite manufacturer is Kosei, from which offer a line of super light racing tires that really look trick on smaller compact sports cars.  If you do your shopping smart, you should be able to pick-up a set of quality wheels and tires for under $1,000; but if money is not as issue then upwards of $3,000 is not unheard of.

Of course if you are the lucky owner of a convertible, then swapping the original Mazda Miata convertible top for the sleek hard top is a must.  The Mazda Miata hard top gives your baby the appearance of a Beemer Z series at a fraction of the cost.  But if you live in the winter climates of the North, then you will thank me later when you find that your car is able to insulate the heat inside your cockpit long enough for you to enjoy it before it disappears out the top of your convertible roof.

Another easy yet sharp upgrade lies within your original Miata headlights.  I am talking about the number of available Mazda Miata headlight conversion packages on the aftermarket today.  The original Mazda Miata headlights are entirely reasonable, but once you swap them out for the conversions, you will not know how you ever lived without them.  Your available viewing area at night seems to double, as well as your hazardous weather driving capabilities.  If you are in the mood for a big change to your Miata’s appearance there are four little words that I have for you:  Mazda Miata body kit.

The body kits you will find for the Mazda Miata are quite various.  I have seen some extreme kits that add an aggressive tuner front end with low extruding body panels that finish with a lowered rear valence with exhaust opening(s).  But you can also spring for a nice lowered front air dam with minimal ground effects that will not only give your car a sporty look, but will also help with wind drag at high speeds

Whatever you’re fancies; there are Mazda Miata accessories made just for you.  Your Miata MX-5 should be just the way you like it; no excuses!
