The Mazda Test Drive

July 15th, 2006

I you are itching to pursue the new car test drive: Mazda CX-7 challenge, or take an older Mazda car from a used lot out on a spin you are going to need to understand the history of Mazda to properly prepare yourself. The first thing you need to know about Mazda used cars, is that their greatest asset is reliability, economy, and price. These cars were not built to be sporty in those eras as they were more for the economy market. Of course today’s Mazda new cars can be rather sporty indeed compared to the used Mazda cars of yesterday. A lot of transformation has occurred in the Mazda market over the years and the sorts of drivers that look to Mazda are a bit more performance prone than they once were.

Now of course while Mazda sports cars are reasonably popular everywhere you go, for Mazda cars UK; you will still find a strong market for economy even more so than sport and performance. The Mazda new car price UK is often looked on as being more lavishly expensive than the US customer see it; so that is often one of the greatest reasons for the weaning interest of the sport models in the UK. But if you like to really look towards the future of high performance you are going to need an airplane ticket to Japan to get your fill.

Mazda concept cars are unveiled every year on showroom floors and often times depict models that the US will unfortunately never see. Of course the thought of car shipping Japan Mazda might be on your mind, and if it is, and taxes and boat shipping costs do not scare you off; then you just might be in for a real treat. Japanese Mazda sport vehicles are traditionally more performance oriented, than they bring over towards the US to market.

About the best thing you are going to find in the US from Mazda Japan is the Mazda RX8 car. But before I get too far ahead of myself, let’s talk a little more about the RX-8 in general. The Mazda RX8’s power originates from its Renesis rotary engine which is capable of up to 250 horsepower in stock form. The Renesis is a beautiful designed engine that offers high revving reliability; and when I say high revving I am talking upwards of 8,000 rpm. The Mazda RX8 I guess could be said to not be for the faint of heart, nor lead of foot.

In general you can find a Mazda car to fit just about anyone’s desire; but you do have to be aware of the changes that occurred over the different generations of Mazda. Mazda has transitioned to an all new era of sport and luxury from what was once economy. So look to your functionality that you expect out of your Mazda and then decide if you will be visiting either the dealership showrooms, or the used car lots…
